East Second Ringroad

Beijing snowed yesterday. The snow adds a sense of fairy tale to the city, replaces the otherwise mundane grey color with white, and, above all, cleans the air.

I usually dread walking in the street of the city. But this morning, I walked out of home and was greeted by the chilly, but fresh, air. Instead of hoping to get into a taxi instantly as usual, I kept walking. After lunch, I took a walk outside the office and enjoyed it.

I realized it was always the dirtiness instead of the coldness that has prevented me from spending much time outdoor. If many people are like me who rather opt to drive or take taxies in a city this polluted, fewer people would want to trasfer with public transportation just to avoid time outside. It will take longer to improve the Beijing air. If people this generation have to sacrifice the lungs for better air in the future, at least, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

Chinese are uploading more Internet videos of sex, scandal and protest. It's big business — and a headache for Beijing. You can find my story about the topic on TIME.com here:

Toyota PRIUS

How green is it:

Toyota developed an innovative power train that combines an electric motor and a gasoline-fueled internal combustion engine. This enables the Prius to provide lower emissions and higher fuel economy than regular cars.

When accelerating, the electric motor and the internal-combustion engine work together, with the engine recharging the batteries. In bumper-to-bumper city traffic, the Prius alternates between the two power sources and sometimes runs on battery power alone.

A regenerative braking system converts energy usually lost as heat into electricity and uses that to further recharge the car's battery pack.

Another reason to buy a Prius is if you buy a Prius, it shows you are the best liberal on the block, it improves your environmental image instantly.

An ideal life consists of:

wake up naturally not by the alarm clock;
Have a fun job that do not have to sit in an office;
Have a vacation plan within the next three months;
Have a party invitation every week but do not have to go to each one;
Have a good conversation with someone I care;
Laugh everyday, not just smile;
Have a banana shake in the afternoon;
Take a nap;
Have something live at home, plants or pets and they are growing well;
Have a goal and do something small about it each day;
Have friends who love me regardless of me being late sometimes;
Do not have a relationship that needs to be worked out all the time;
Read a chapter of a book before bed;
Have someone who gets me;
Fall asleep instantly..

I wish you shelter from the storm

A cozy fire to keep you warm

But most of all

When snow flakes fall

I wish you love

Millions of people die every year for the stupid reason they are too poor to stay alive. The basic truth is that for less than a percent of the income of the rich world nobody has to die of poverty on the planet. That's really a powerful truth.
